Pokemon Black and White Get 40/40 From Famitsu
Ah, the coveted perfect score from Famitsu. The latest game in the list to get it? Pokémon Black/White Version. For those of you unaware, Famitsu uses a reviewing system where four different reviewers each give a score from 1-10 to a game, and thus getting a 40 means that all four reviewers must give a 10 each to the game. It's fairly rare, but it does happen on occasion, and this is one of those occasions.
Admittedly, it has been a lot common for games to get a perfect 40 lately, but that does not make it less impressive. You'll find a list of titles that have previously gotten a perfect 40 by Famitsu below.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64, 1998)
Soulcalibur (DC, 1999)
Vagrant Story (PS, 2000)
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (GC, 2003)
Nintendogs (DS, 2005)
Final Fantasy XII (PS2, 2006)
Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Wii, 2008)
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (PS3, 2008)
428: Fuusa Sareta Shibuya de (Wii, 2008)
Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Sky (DS, 2009)
Monster Hunter Tri (Wii, 2009)
Bayonetta (Xbox 360, 2009)
New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Wii, 2009)
Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (PSP, 2010)
This marks Pokémon Black/White Version as the 15th game ever to reach a perfect 40 in Famitsu, and the first Pokémon game to do so.

4 Wii games... great. At least someone somewhere considers it like a good console.

"it has been a lot common for games to get a perfect 40 lately, but that does not make it less impressive."
imo it really it does...
I agree there are too many games with perfect scores and to be frank I do not think any game should ever achieve a perfect score because there is not one game out there that is perfect. But I will say, for the most part, it is an impressive list of games and the majority of them deserve a high percentage ranking. I have not read the Famitsu review on why Nintendogs got a perfect score, but I am sure based on their review it was justified. What is amazing to me is that the Wii has four games on that list--more than any other system on the list.
That's great news! HG/SS were acclaimed by the reviewers (almost 88 at GameRankings, best score of the franchise since... G/S, 10 years ago!), so I'm really excited about the new stuff in B/W that justifies 40/40.
P.S.: Famitsu banalized its "perfect 40" since Nintendogs (!) got that grade. Before 2005, it was a harder achievement.
ok so this is really getting out of hands.... 3 in 2008 - 4 in 2009... 5 in 2010?? :p
great news for the game... never played a pokemon game, so i guess i'll have to start with this one.
A few too many games are getting perfect scores lately but hey ... still pretty cool to see. Guess Pokemon got a refreshing change.
