Diablo III Team Is Currently "Building Content"
Jay Wilson, the director of Blizzard's upcoming juggernaut sequel Diablo III, said a few choice words regarding where development is right now, when speaking to IGN UK. When speaking at gamescom last month, he explained that “What we’re doing right now is going broad across the whole game.”
“We’re trying to build up all the content to enough of a point where we can get into polishing. We have good examples of what does it look like for monsters when we’re at ship level, what does it look like for classes, what does it look like for items, we have the answers to those questions, but there’s still some story and questing stuff that’s not hitting the quality level that we want, so those are the things we’re working on.”
Grim news, since it hints that the game is in a pre-polish stage of development at the moment. However, there is more:
“We’re still adding monsters, we’re still working on bosses, we have some that aren’t made yet... We’re working on every Act but we’ve got some areas that haven’t been built yet. We’re still building, but we’re building very fast. We’re not in discovery mode anymore.”
He also went on to mention that the game will be similar in size to its predecessor, Diablo II.
It certainly sounds like Blizzard are gearing up into full-scale development with this title. They have yet to set a release window, but given how prone Blizzard are to delays, that might not be such a bad thing. You can expect more news about Diablo III to be posted as it becomes available.

Uh, what? Sure, if you're getting rushed or have a high level character with you. Did you ever play through the game on your own/with friends without getting rushed? Just to beat normal difficulty it was a good 15-30 hours for me after I already knew the game like the back of my hand.
2-3 hours for Act 1
2-3 hours for Act 2
4-5 hours for Act 3
1-2 hours Act 4
3-4 hours Act 5
Seriously, get a group of friends and go through the game with all new characters. It's pretty fun and takes a while. Nightmare and hell difficulties will take you a bit longer as you'll probably die more frequently.
On topic though, yeah seems like 2011 for a beta, 2012 release :( Sadness.
Why only similar in size to Diablo II....That game can be beaten so fast...
