During a recent IGN interview, Shigeru Miyamoto, the genius behind a plethora of Nintendo's first-party projects, expressed his interest in fleshing out Super Mario World into the badass 3D world we've all wanted to witness it in. And now, with the Nintendo 3DS... we can! Hooray!
Every developer out there, in this day and age, wants to incorporate motion controls and 3D peripherals for their games one way or another. We don't blame them - after all, the technology's there to be utilized. In fact, Miyamoto-san, too, sees this, and he's admitted that a 3D Super Mario World wouldn't be such a bad idea. The shiny, new Nintendo 3DS provides such a platform; it opens doors both for new IPs and potential revitalized classics like Super Mario World. While many may see the influx of motion control and 3D-based games as "gimmicks," the creator of franchises such as Mario and The Legend of Zelda thinks otherwise.
When asked if he would change anything about Super Mario World, Miyamoto-san replied that the question "...gets me thinking about what fun it would be to create a Super Mario World game on the Nintendo 3DS, and how we could use the depth and the sense of distance offered by 3D visuals on the world map and on the maps in that game, so that you have Bullet Bills flying at you from a distance and popping up off the screen."
Please, make it happen, Miyamoto. While there's bound to be many gimmicky titles for the 3DS, knowing Miyamoto's track record, a potential Super Mario World would be - in this day and age - a SNES gamer's dream.

Just make a 2D platformer, with 3D effects - make it a new game - then it will be amazing.
So will the 3DS - I highly doubt this hand held will be anything but amazing.
The real good thing is that Nintendo is taking 3D seriously. They aren't worried about the "gimmick" label that 3D currently has. Stickin to their guns. Who knows 3DS may be the greatest handheld ever...
@Imphamis: Im a perfectly normal dood and it turns me on to, so no worries there ;-)
OT: cool, the 3DS will have one amazing library :-D
Rather see a New Super Mario Bros in 3D.
Although if we are going for ports, I'd love to see A Link to the Past or Link's Awakening remastered on the 3DS.
The 3DS screams Paper Mario, A 3d Paper Mario will look better than anything in 3d..
