Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is set in a ravaged Europe of the middle ages. The planet has been devastated by a powerful magic. The souls of the dead are trapped on our earthly plane unable to find peace, and inhuman creatures of nightmare now roam the Earth, wreaking havoc. Having witnessed his wife Marie ( murdered at their hands, Gabriel pledges revenge against those responsible: the mysterious Lords of Shadow.
Gabriel learns from an ally called Zobek that each of the Lords possesses pieces of a relic called ’The God Mask’ that, when assembled, can purify the world and has the power to bring the dead back. Thus, Gabriel must face the three factions of the Lords of Shadow and confront them.
The game has a stunning voice acting cast, with Gabriel voiced by Robert Carlyle (28 Weeks Later, Trainspotting, The Full Monty), and Patrick Stewart (X-Men, Star Trek: Next Generation) as the mysterious Zobek. Natasha McElhone (The Other Boleyn Girl, Californication, The Truman Show) and Jason Isaacs (Black Hawk Down, The Patriot, Harry Potter series) round off the talent.
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is under development by Konami’s European Product Planning department, with Madrid-based developer Mercury Steam working closely with Konami’s Kojima Productions studio.

I do agree about the graphics, though, from an artistic level, they're beautiful.
Technically, it's pretty damn close to God of War III.
@oni-link: I'm not a Sony fanbot. Mind your manners.
I would believe you, but seeing the controls, and even the actions in-game, I'm not convinced.
The reviews don't help, either.
@huax
I wouldn't say copy, but GoW did inspire DI like how DMC inspired GoW. Honestly, I am so sick of all the Sony fanbots who disses DI just because it imitates a few gameplay elements from the franchise and disregards the other strengths that DI offers. Don't get me wrong GoW is indeed heavenly and DI is just a great game but ppl hating on well made games just annoy me.
@kupomogli: Surprised you'd hate GoW but like Dante's Inferno, as DI copies GoW in every way, but w/e to each their own, I guess.
Dare I say the best looking game for this genre and I am highly stoked over this. I haven't been this excited over a game since Zelda:TP was released.
Huge Castlevania fan have owned every game in the series that has been released in the US since the first. Decided I wouldn't look at anything until release and then go, what the hell, why not check it out.
Now GoW is not the original stylish action game Even DMC isn't, but DMC is the first game to really perfect it.
Now. I dislike GoW because the gameplay is bland and boring, story sucks, and only thing good is the graphics. I love Dante's Inferno, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Devil May Cry 1/3, and Castlevania Lament of Innocence.
So I check out these pictures. Hoping it's similar to Lament of Innocence style. Look down, look down, look down. Then I see walking along boards. First thing I think. God of War had that, those were stupid. Then look at the next picture, again, walking along a board. Then one more, and swinging along a glowing item in the middle of the room, I was like, wtf. God of War again.
Now Super Castlevania 4, Bloodlines, and somewhat, Lament of Innocence, had you either swing or use stuff to whip yourself across. So it does keep it in a sort of Castlevania style as you are using a whip after all(Indiana Jones anyone?)
It really all counts on the gameplay. If the gameplay is good then it doesn't matter. But if it sucks, it'll be unfortunate. The series has been going downhill as of late though so I wouldn't be surprised, but this one has been in development for quite awhile. CoD, PoR, OoE, Judgment. Are we going to get another bad game in the series almost in a row?
GoW3, Darksiders, Dante's Inferno, Bayonetta, Assassin's Creed I & II, Prince of Persia, Castlevania: Lord of Shadows. This genre is starting to get the distinct feel of becoming saturated this gen. Only being out saturated by FPS?
Is moving gameplay in a new direction but towards a well occupied niche really what this franchise needs to freshen it up?
Looks better already, Castlevania looking Japanese didn't fit. Konami obviously intended it to look European when they started making them. Some of the screen shots look like Assasin's Creedish.
Patrick Stewart voice acting = WIN, in my book.
Really looking forward to this title.
It has "ok" graphics, but as long as the gameplay and story is good I will get it, I am hoping for the first good 3D Castlevania:):)
@BlazerManZQ8
If it was multi platform in the first place how the heck would they dumb down the graphics. you noob
Hope this game turns out great, I miss playing Castlevania, the last good one was Lament of Innocence on PS2. Hope the didn't dumb down the graphix cause its also on the 360 like on FF......
I was skeptical when I first heard about this game, but the more I learn about it the more satisfied I am.
look pretty good.
hope the storymode don't disappoint.
i love the Castlevania series because of the story and gameplay.
good hair,
so hack and slash adventure then
will he beat out kratos, bayonetta, dante etc, only time will tell
I definitely love the art style. I definitely need a HD console even though I think the wii has the best library for me. Too many good HD exclusive games!
I like Castlevania, but: Original 2D series > Metroid clone 2D series > 3D series.
I can't wait for this game, it's gonna be flippin' awesome! Castlevania is a great series.
This was always one of my favorites , I played the SNS , PS1 ,PS2 , N64 , G-Boy , and DS
I will surly purchase this one
I saw a trailer on GamesCom and wasn't impressed. Very generic, that special something is missing.
IMO.
the third shot down looks just like a part of a level from X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
seems good, but there are so many "good" Ps3 games that just "good" is not enough to make you buy it
Pretty much what I wanted to say has already been said.
Awesome PS3 box art, but I'm way more in favor of 2D Castlevania. Right now the game looks nothing more than God of War meets Prince of Persia.
But if there's anyone who can make this game happen, it's the one and only Hideo Kojima.
haven't played a great 3d castlevania yet, though i'm a huge 2d castlevania fan. Not so much of the metroidvanias though. The n64 game was pretty good when it came out but the PS2 ones sucked.
Looks Great, Unfortunately I have had enough with these kind of games with God of War3 but maybe I'll be interested when the game gets released
@badgenome
I sencond that. that boxart is amazing.
can't wait for this game! looking to shape up good. love the environment and atmosphere!
It looks good, but I won't be able to get interested until I see more gameplay footage. And frankly, see that the game has broken the cruse of the last 12+ years of IGA stagnation. This is one of the last classic gaming series that has never been able to create a good 3D version of itself, and this game has a lot of pressure to make that transition without simply copying another style or ruining the 'Castlevania' gameplay.
I love Castlevania and am very excited to hear more on this (tho I cannot say Im overly wow'd yet)
I think I'm more interested in hearing the music for this one than playing the game, but will wait and see how it turns out. Looks promising.
good to see they made a point of grabbing the crossing narrow , the worst thing about god of war, wonder if they can get in Mass Effect 2's planet scanning, RE5's inventory system, sonic's grinding and any other bad idea's while their at it
lol you guys stole all my comments so now i'm speechless. awesome ps3boxart (therefore will not be the final one lol) and looks very much like gow and pop.
i really hope this game turns out to be good, been waiting for this for too long
I was totally going to say what blunty51 said. Reminds me of GOW/PoP, a LOT.
you should watch that trailer thats been up for a while theres some real good production values in this!!!
I know there's no chance... but please let that PS3 box art be the real deal!
