@kyruken
lol, what's the punchline? Sure it would capture the aggressiveness, but what's the funny, besides being overtly aggressive?

oni-link (on 19 March 2010)

This is a typical SDF (Sony Defense Force) tactics. For those bringing up the youtube tech demos; it don't mean shit as Nintendo has been working on motion control behind the scenes before or around the time of those demos. How do I know check this link: http://www.gamecubicle.com/news-nintendo_gyration.htm . Those eye toy demos never even used or considered gyration technology or accelerometers they were all camera based detection. Besides everyone knows demos DON'T count; system/product releases DO and Sony released their system *gasp* 5 years after Nintendo; not to mention the fact the Move and SubController looks similar to the Wii-mote and Nunchuck. Speaking of camera Sony ripped it off Nintendo also as Nintendo was the first to release a camera for the purpose of a consumer video game product http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_Boy_Camera

Goddbless (on 19 March 2010)

I love that guy, he is gold. Whenever Sony needs to say something they should let him do it. I think Kevin Butler is going to be the reason I buy a PS3.

nintendonitis (on 19 March 2010)

"PS3 Move Main Controllers Needs Built-in Analog Stick Like Sixense TrueMotion.

2 Move Controllers with analog sticks eliminate the need for a non-motion captured Sub-controller reducing the cost for gamers.

Purcahse of a 2nd Move Controller with analog built-in is natural, practical and economical for us gamers and Sony.

2 Identical Move Controller set up doesnt look like the WiiMote+Nunchuck set up

If Nintendo or Microsoft gets its hand on the Sixense TrueMotion technology on their next consoles..... Sony PS3 is in trouble."

I agree with this.

HeavyBlade (on 18 March 2010)

Lol, love it!

GuiltySpartan77 (on 18 March 2010)

and also just sony knows there "move" is just a copycat version of the wiimote natal is actually more original than move since its not like wii's motion controller and what is this dude on the video talking about natal could do the boxing thing with out making sissy moves its called balling up your fist and pointing at the natal device duh!!!!!

GuiltySpartan77 (on 18 March 2010)

pretty funny how sony is judging natal when it hasn't even come out but hey let them make ignorant comment all they like

kaneada (on 18 March 2010)

@Hyruken That would be insanely funny and I love Sony.

MontanaHatchet (on 18 March 2010)

Hyruken: No, because that wouldn't be funny.

Hyruken (on 18 March 2010)

Can i ask something to those who like this ad.

If Nintendo came out and did an ad that was simply just a bar chart. And on that bar chart said Wii 69m. PS3 33m. We sold double the PS3 for a reason etc..

Would you find that funny too?

prime (on 18 March 2010)

Holy Sony Defense Force!!

benao87 (on 18 March 2010)

meh!

monotoot (on 18 March 2010)

@TX109, what on earth could M$ or nintendo say against move/sony, its just an improved version of the wii, and natal is just a retarded idea.

loves2splooge (on 18 March 2010)

This really seems like a "me too" move on Sony's part. An attempt to cash in on the Wiimote craze. And what's with that ball on top of the controller? That's not going to fly in the west. Maybe in Japan but not here.

welshbloke (on 18 March 2010)

It can work in a positive way but more often than not it backfires. I suspect this will backfire if it was widely publicised but I imagine it is on a limited viral like distribution and only the hardcore even know of its existence.

heywoodjablome (on 18 March 2010)

@KeptoKnight

---attacking the opponents credibility can go a long way sometimes. if they can bash the competition to the point where they start a negative stereotype then they have just hurt the competition's sales. its like all the people out there that call barack obama a communist. if they say it enough there will be people who believe it. so i applaud sony for doing this and anyone else who would do this as well.

EL_PATRAS (on 18 March 2010)

pretty funny, I'll admit

TX109 (on 18 March 2010)

i hope to see either microsoft or nintendo return fire soon.

pollolealps3 (on 18 March 2010)

AMAZING!! hahaha

KeptoKnight (on 18 March 2010)

MR. KHAN: I always love ur posts. I have read ur posts from other site as well and u always seem to bring out the top points...I totally agree below....

Mr Khan says:
Sony's in no real position to take potshots at the competitors quite yet. In the eyes of the consumer, you're in the same position that Natal is: a promise and a few impressions from "journalists." Nintendo is proven, which is far more than they can say at this point

Still a funny ad campaign, but this one definitely wasn't fair.
________

That is very true. Concerning the countless bashing and mocking and what not, the peripheral has not been released yet. We consumers have not touched it as of yet, and from watching some of the videos, i hope people notice how slow the characters seem to be moving.......

heywoodjablome (on 18 March 2010)

lol finally they attack the competition it took them long enough. the attack on wii is kinda dumb because even though you don't need to throw real punches on boxing you can still simulate it by...throwing real punches.

the attack on natal though is pretty legit. who really would want to play a shooting game with an imaginary gun. ill take a wii light gun any day to play house of the dead and resident evil umbrella chronicles.

only777 (on 18 March 2010)

@ all the haters.
Don't soil your underwere in rage just becuase Sony took a dig at Nintendo. Nintendo used to do this a lot when the N64 was in the works. Anyone remember them bashing CD's becuase they were slower than carts? Or even this utter N64 lie console bashing gem! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eKlbx5niBu8

SilentPyramid (on 18 March 2010)

amazing ad as always!Go ps3 go!!i buy for sure move!sales are growing!!

BlueRabbit17 (on 18 March 2010)

@miz1q2w3e Who asked you?

miz1q2w3e (on 18 March 2010)

wasn't funny to me at all

Rrobba (on 18 March 2010)

Well, the Wii remote with motion plus CAN detect movement in all axis. And I don't think Sony mocking the two consoles that has been more successful than theirs is a good idea.

Mummelmann (on 18 March 2010)

There sure are a lot of sensitive folks in here. Lighten up for gods sake.

welshbloke (on 18 March 2010)

I suppose we must wait until November 2010 to see if this is actually funny at the moment this seems to be going back to some of the desperation Sony used during the dark days.

Also I see no problems drinking food through a straw that at least I am sure will come true.

johnlucas (on 18 March 2010)

Enjoy the laughs while you can.
Nobody's stopping the Revolution.
John Lucas

P.S.: So Sega-ish!

DrDread (on 18 March 2010)

How can you ridicule Honda CRX when you sell a Mercedes they are both CARS, its not like the mercedes gets you there much faster. It's so STUPID!

/sarcasm

I don't think its a problem to ridicule the Wiimote when compared to the Move at all. They are similar devices but one is "probably" a lot higher quality, and generally is far more enjoyable to use, then the other.

kowenicki (on 18 March 2010)

btw... 1:41. long ad? is it just an internet thing?

kowenicki (on 18 March 2010)

How can you ridicule Wii-mote without ridiculing Move? Just asking....

Smeags (on 18 March 2010)

Glad Sony agrees that motion control is the future. Get on the motion train everyone. :-)

dsgrue3 (on 18 March 2010)

LOL. This ad is absolute gold.

@theposter below the Wii attack was at the boxing. Have you played Wii boxing? The motion is exactly like he did, flapping his arms like that haha.

Final-Fan (on 18 March 2010)

I guess I missed the part where he attacked the Wii?

Definitely a shot at Natal, though. Which is pretty legitimate and smart IMO since they are trying to battle the 360 and not the Wii at this point.

RaidenChief88 (on 18 March 2010)

Cue Aaron Greenburg 360 North American stat press release..........

RaidenChief88 (on 18 March 2010)

Hahaha....this is a great ad. Just great.

Gintoki (on 18 March 2010)

@Andysw
This ad makes Sony claiming that they revolutionate OUR gaming experience.
Then GameBoy Camera went before eyetoy.
Still funny they admitted Wiimote are great.

Andysw (on 18 March 2010)

Chris,

Because they've had the idea since the eyetoy. You can't critisize someone for plagarism if they had the idea in the first place. Its as clear as day. Its just that some people are biased and like to stick to their initial assumption that its a copy, while in reality its not.

ChrisIsNotSexy (on 18 March 2010)

Awesome

Gilgamesh (on 18 March 2010)

Lmao pure gold

Jedidiah-Rose (on 18 March 2010)

everyone loves the kevin butler ads,I mean everyone.I have not seen a bad comment about them, until now.Just because it's poking fun at the other control systems people get touchy, come one guys, the ad is great! I found it just as amusing if not more so than all of the KB ads so far.

jack100 (on 18 March 2010)

it's soo funny, between the 0:20 to 0:30 time mark he says that the playstation move has been a great success and he thanks us.....and then at the end he talks about riping the hole in the space time continuum(sp?). If the Move isn't successful, then wouldn't that cause a contradiction and rip a hole anyways, hahahahahaha.

Dunno why I'm saying this, I love time travel stuff in general.

Monges79 (on 18 March 2010)

I'm a huge 360 fan and ...................... this commercial is hilarious! Kevin Butler has been Sony's best aquisition in a long time. As for the Sony move, I have to admit that it looks better than Natal. Like a lot of people have been saying.....................we'll see later this year. Until then, I hope we all get to see more commercials like this.

pizzahut451 (on 18 March 2010)

where did they attack Natal or Wii mote????

@hyruken
so you played both PS Move and Natal to say Move is bad? Or are you just mad because of the commercial so you just started trolling?

chriscox1121 (on 18 March 2010)

how can anyone seriously say this isn't a rip off of the wii

Mr Khan (on 18 March 2010)

Sony's in no real position to take potshots at the competitors quite yet. In the eyes of the consumer, you're in the same position that Natal is: a promise and a few impressions from "journalists." Nintendo is proven, which is far more than they can say at this point

Still a funny ad campaign, but this one definitely wasn't fair.

prime (on 18 March 2010)

Sony is advertising to the single male loners demographic

mmnin (on 18 March 2010)

Learns? Sony always takes a smack-talk approach to some degree. They keep trying to target that "I just want to be cool" demographic of teens since they are so easily persuaded with the right tactics and once that product has become a part of their identity and "ego" they latch onto it for years, because if they switch, then they were "wrong" which damages their sense of existence. Then after that period it becomes nostalgia and they keep with the same system for even longer. The most fragile market to appeal to are the child years because when a person starts to get identity they feel they must rebel their old ways because they are looking at life with a different set of tools.

sergiodaly (on 18 March 2010)

awesome ad... very funny... about the jab at the competition, he didn't revealed any deep secret or something? did he say anything that we didn't know already?

monotoot (on 18 March 2010)

@hyruken whatever, i don't want to get into an argument or something, anyway i thought the commercial was hilarious, and PS move looks like the best of the 3 motion controllers, even though its not really my kind of gaming.

Hyruken (on 18 March 2010)

@monotoot
No it is called being desperate.
When a company focus' themselves on other companies products rather then their own it is being desperate.
If all you got in the tank left to show people is an ad to say how bad everyone else is then shows you have nothing to offer.

Silentium (on 18 March 2010)

I don't know that guy but the ad is pretty hilarious.

Hyruken (on 18 March 2010)

And spot on Wick
You have to sort of laugh that their whole angle of this is to diss Nintendo and Microsoft. That is fair enough.
But when you are last in sales that sort of makes it funny. It is like a bottom of the league team saying those at the top are crap. If they are as good as their mouth says they are and everyone else is as bad as they make out they are then why are they...last?
They should of come up with something to show Move, promote it, wow us, make us want to buy it. That did the total opposite.

NJ5 (on 18 March 2010)

It's kind of funny, but it also makes it look like the best they can say about their own product is that it's "slightly better" than their main competitor's.

monotoot (on 18 March 2010)

@hyruken actually, its called competitive advertising.

BrayanA (on 18 March 2010)

I like Kevin Butler ads, but this one is silly.

monotoot (on 18 March 2010)

friggin awesome ad, i still can't believe how stupid natal looks, the games are going to be terrible.
peter molyneux can suck a railroad spike for all of gamings sake.

Hyruken (on 18 March 2010)

Making an ad to bash the competition. Very creative.
There is a word in the industry that is used when people do that rather then concentrating on their own stuff, it is called desperate.

mvpblaze (on 18 March 2010)

It's funny how now that the "Move" is announced it doesn't compare to the awsomeness of the all powerful Wii..... I'm still waiting to see what the games would look at the end but i'm not trashing something without playing it, same goes for natal. I myself hope they both do great cause I do accept change. Now back to playing GOW3

PS. I have a Wii and like it just most of the games suck. Thank God for the new Metroid it's going to make me play for a while.

NeoMatrix (on 18 March 2010)

Awesome!

Wow, Nice! Just Nice!

hunter_alien (on 18 March 2010)

It wasnt that bad :-P Yes the Natal shot was a bit cheap, but hey, at least its him, and nobody takes him seriously :-D

Baalzamon (on 18 March 2010)

I'm still confused how this is overpriced...people pay $120 for a single game: Rock Band...yet apparently something that comes with a game, an eyetoy, and a move controller that will work on hundreds of titles should be considerably less than $100...that makes a lot of sense

Jumpin (on 18 March 2010)

Didn't watch it, but the way I see the product: it's an over-priced, imitation brand Wii remote, with pastel coloured sailor moon jewels on the top.

j.thomaz (on 18 March 2010)

funny add

Strike24 (on 18 March 2010)

I honestly would rather this motion control fad to die. It was bad enough when people started to take graphics over gameplay, but now gimmicks too?

chanskie (on 18 March 2010)

WOW....what is all these hates all about....i found it funny and that doesn't stop me want to try out Natal when its release....Bloody hell, life is stress as it is, so please don't make gaming a stressful thing in part of our life too. We are not 5 y/o fighting over a lolly

Gintoki (on 18 March 2010)

Sony's still cocky...
they don't even know what Ninty's gonna do.
Moreover the price of this sextoy-controller is way too much.As usual.
You love Sony?Go play a PS2

Lezard_Valeth (on 18 March 2010)

Very funny :)

oni-link (on 18 March 2010)

Typical SDF (Sony Defense Force) topics. Those tech demos don't mean shit as Nintendo has been working on motion control behind the scenes before or around the time of those demos. How do I know check this link: http://www.gamecubicle.com/news-nintendo_gyration.htm . Those eye toy demos never even used or considered gyration technology or accelerometers they were all camera based detection. Speaking of camera Sony ripped it off Nintendo also as Nintendo was the first to release a camera for the purpose of a consumer video game product http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_Boy_Camera

DiemJoker4 (on 18 March 2010)

Stop acting like the Move or Natal is the final step in gaming its not the end of Jumanji, Robin Williams knuckles are not going to save the day and gaming will go on as it was, because Natal will fail and the Sony Move will sell Ninja Robot In My Ass shovelware games so move on, love the games for what they are worth (FFxIII & GOWIII. God of War for those of you that are Illiterate) and just Play Beyond

DiemJoker4 (on 18 March 2010)

wow you're so right akuseru you deserve a cookie

akuseru (on 18 March 2010)

@DirtyP2002

LOL, ye... The Eye Toy never existed. Neither do those tech videos of that dude showing the capabilities and ideas they have with the Eye both for PS2 AND for FUTURE Platforms (i.e. PS3). They clearly show that they thought about this wand idea YEARS ago, but there might be reasons for them holding it back. You know, Eye Toy failed a bit. How the hell do you know that when Nintendo showed their WiiMote for the first time, Sony thought: "Oh, they're taking this approach, we already have some foundation for this, lets see if it's popular before we launch ours". You have no idea, ye, it comes off as a rip off, I agree, but tech videos from PS2 era shows otherwise. Sony might've thought about the wand years ago, not only because of the Wii. Yes, yes, I know, you're too Microsoft to give any credit where credit is due when it comes to Sony, but you should really try, it's really not that bad... And Microsoft evolved Motion Controls? Don't making me fucking laugh myself to death. They have evolved SHIT. Natal = Eye Toy +, nothing more, nothing less. If you want to think otherwise, be my guess. Oh, and how much does a ticket cost to Delusional Land? You should know since you're a regular traveller.

Wildchild_cob29 (on 18 March 2010)

Wow! I really thought Sony could not go any lower. But they did !!
Oh well! I guess it's not the first time.

I would like to see sony bring something innovative on the market (not something they just tweeked a little to looks like a sex toy instead of a TV remote (hey i'm able to do it too :D, only difference is that i'm not trying to sell anything)) as well as a new controller.

Well, only time will say if we get a dual shock 4 for ps4 or maybe something like the batarang XD (just kidding) (not trying to upset anyone BTW)

wick (on 18 March 2010)

Maybe they should save the trash talking for when they aren't in last place.........

If that ever happens.

Wandamaximoff (on 18 March 2010)

"the next generation starts when we say its starts"

havent we had this type of crap from sony before?.... That one blew up in there face BIG TIME.

Personly i liked sony when they ate humble pie and was less arogant about there product. Unfortunetly it seems they have become confident again... I have NO idea why there numbers are pretty lackluster considering they have had a re brand.

The controler looks awful.... Id rather pretend to shoot with my hand than with a flashing pink sex toy lol! Maybe if they added vibration this thing cud do some desent numbers! Putting the sex toy aside i have no desire to play a shooting game on mothion controle id much rather NEW concepts you know inovation rather than the product being another remote with the next focused on BUTTONS lol

Severance (on 18 March 2010)

the second video is kevin butler of the past!

Severance (on 18 March 2010)

look what i found on kotaku!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Svhyf1SF3CU

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AuGo9NaaP5s <-- There is Kevin butler of the past!

Micke16 (on 18 March 2010)

I love this guy ^^

arsenicazure (on 18 March 2010)

funny commercial.. good job sony

czecherychestnut (on 18 March 2010)

The one thing funnier than this commercial is reading how butt hurt some people are getting over it. Seriously, lighten up.

aragod (on 18 March 2010)

Is this a spoof or a serious comercial? I don't like the tone of this advert very much. Sony should leave bashing competetion to Microsoft.

FKNetwork (on 18 March 2010)

Don't Sony learn by their mistakes? obviously not after seeing that video....

johnsobas (on 18 March 2010)

and we're certainly not interested in gimmicks.

Michael-5 (on 18 March 2010)

That just looks desperate if you ask me. He brings up good points, but remember the Move, is an imitation Wii-mote, with no analog stick.

NoCtiS_NoX (on 18 March 2010)

@ The2bears
I know that and just like I said they need to relax and don't take this far too seriously this isn't a PR bullshit like It's only possible to X console and it's not possible in other consoles and etc. so for me the ads itself is meant to be funny, if MS or Nintendo counter with same ads that is funny as this one then I'll just laugh it out.

smbu2000 (on 18 March 2010)

Well if they're already showing videos of it/demo'ing it, then I highly doubt it's in the pre-alpha stages...

I also said that I hope Sony can improve it, if you didn't see that part of my post...

Smashed says:
@smbu2000

Yeah let's make judgments on a game that's in pre-alpha!
Posted on: 03/17/10, 23:18

Metallicube (on 18 March 2010)

I don't really see how they dissed the Wii.. Was it the boxer comment? Funny ad though, and I don't even like Sony. I did think the Natal comments were funny, though also true. I liked the "Kansas City in 6. So call your bookie."

azndragon4k (on 18 March 2010)

lol "its also got what we in the future called buttons"

HelloMotto (on 18 March 2010)

rofl. this is hilarious.

O-D-C (on 18 March 2010)

Loved it, great job Sony, your marketing division really turned things around.

So great job ad agency!

Linkasf (on 18 March 2010)

Disgusting, he's holding a sex toy.

arcane_chaos (on 18 March 2010)

I give Sony credit for this! the commercial was funny(to me) and they took a jab a the competition, though this could be really risky, and could escalate the war tp another level, I would like to see if/what ads MS/Ninty can come up with to tackle this.

shams (on 18 March 2010)

(take#2)

{speechless}

Just when I thought Sony had learnt its lessons...

{still speechless}

kingofwale (on 18 March 2010)

KC in 6. Well, I'm putting my life-saving in this.

We all know that it's true here.... or maybe just those who insist on calling the ad on the "huge success" bit?

Get over it, it's funny, Let's hope Sony delivers

richardhutnik (on 18 March 2010)

Kevin, you said KC in 6! I will be watching. It better happen, or your credibility regarding Move will also be at stake!

josewiisantos (on 18 March 2010)

boring, but i guess thats aimed for the hardcore players? I wonder how they think on advertising it for families.

kratos3390 (on 18 March 2010)

That gun comment was brilliant

Siko1989 (on 18 March 2010)

what do you expect, its competition.. Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony are suppose to smack talk so they can get people to buy there product

chefsean (on 18 March 2010)

Still not that interested in this, but love this commercial and the jab at wii boxing.
