Nintendo has announced that DS and Wii sales were strong over Black Friday week in the United States. Sony has also reported a hard number for Black Friday for the first time since the PS3 launched. Here is how the figures compare to previous years and sales of other systems:

Black Fri wk.     2007              2008             2009

Wii                350,000        800,000           550,000

DS                 653,000        ~780,000        1,000,000+

PS3             ~155,000        ~130,000      440,000

X360             310,000         ~390,000        "double previous Nov week"

Microsoft has yet to report hard X360 hardware figures over Black Friday week 2009. In 2007, CNBC claimed that Microsoft sold 310,000 X360s during Black Friday week. Microsoft claimed that Xbox 360 sales were up 25% from Black Friday week 2007 during Black Friday week 2008. In 2007, Microsoft bragged it had beaten the PS3 2:1 over Black Friday. In 2008, Microsoft claimed it sold three systems for each system Sony sold over Black Friday week. Sony never verified the 2007 or 2008 numbers from Microsoft, thats why I have them in red. Nintendo claimed that DS sales were up about 20% from 2007 over Black Friday week in 2008 but did not give a specific number.

Update: Sony has spoken to Dean at Venture Beat, and is saying it sold 440,000 PS3s in the week ending November 29 based on key retailer figures.

Over the last two years, Black Friday has played a huge portion in November sales data in the United States. In 2008, 40% of Wiis sold in November by NPD figures came during Black Friday week. For DS, it was close to 50%. Xbox 360 Black Friday week 2008 sales were about 47% of November 2008 sales. For PS3, the figure was more like 35% in 2008 if the red estimate is correct. This would be in line with traditional views of Black Friday - that the day is an orgy of capitalism for the price-conscious shopper. Similar percentages for Black Friday week 2009 against November 2009 would mean DS would hit 2m in November, Wii would hit 1.4m, and PS3 (now at an affordable cost) would hit 900k. We'll have to see whether those figures pan out though. In 2007 the figures were not much different though. Black Friday week constituted 35% of all Wiis sold in November (rather than 40% in 2008), 42% of all DS systems sold in November (50%), 40% of X360s sold in November (47%), and 33% of all PS3s sold in November (35%).

Atma, you are such a hypocrite. You claim that I was condemning Madman and Nsanity, yet they were doing the same thing by singling out the PS fanboys. And if it's so bad for me to call people fanboys, then it's equally wrong for Madman and Nsanity to claim some are trolls. Again, I've exposed your biasness by exposing your double standard which dictates your obvious one-sidedness. And you want to claim I'm a fanboy, go right ahead. So which console I'm a fanboy of, and quote something I said in this news article that supports that claim while not ignoring anything else I said that can counter argue your claim. Go ahead.

atma998 (on 02 December 2009)

@Jordhan

LoL I'm a fanboy because I support other members in an attempt to calm down some trolls? OK!

Now I don't care about your love of the business, the point is that you first condemned Madman and Nsanity comments while they were only saying that some Sony fanboys should stop trolling. Also, this site is about video games sales and when you're commenting sales you should take a close look at the context (i.e. bundles).

Btw the Wii DOES have the absolute clear cut advantage so why should I ''scream'' again? lol Now please do us a favor and stop calling people fanboys when you're actually one. Whatever I don't see what your point is all about besides spitting your venom on people who don't agree with you.

Jordahn (on 02 December 2009)

Atma, it's really sad that you are blinded by your own colors. You claim that I'm "defending those Wii and 360 bashers." Yet, why I brought up previous generations in my first post is because I love gaming, and I especially love Nintendo. Atari couldn't cut it so they only exist in name only, Sega was forced out of the hardware business. That's sad to me. I was fearing Nintendo's previous hardware state because of SONY's past dominance and Microsoft trying to buy out Nintendo while stipulating that Nintendo had to stop making consoles to only make software for Microsoft's console, thus hurting competition. But it's awesome that Nintendo continues to cater to their fanbase while reaching out to the casual/non-gamers with the Wii. And now they have the most units sold thus far. Maybe you are confusing my love for gaming with insecurity because you choose to only take what favors your narrow agenda and ignore the rest. Because if you actually kept an opened mind, you would see that I'm all in favor for Nintendo, but I'm a gamer FIRST. If you look at every post in this News article that I wrote, there is NOTHING remotely anti-Nintendo about them. It's all been reasonable which grates the fanboys (such as you) because reason doesn't always favor one side. Oh, and about the bundles, yes, I do not care. Because what I ultimately care is the consumer having choices because it serves the consumer first which in turn helps the manufacture. My context is that I'm not a petty fanboy that screams just because my console of choice doesn't have the absolute clear cut advantage.

atma998 (on 02 December 2009)

@Jordahn

LMAO

First you said : ''And please quote where I made excuses for SONY without taking things out of context.''

And after in a second post, you said : ''Who cares...? If the consumer wants and buys it, great? If not, their prerogative.'' when talking about bundles. Looks like you don't want to see the whole context of those BF sales to me.

Btw you were the first one here to talk about the previous gen (take a look at your first post), probably because of your insecurity for which you're talking so much about. Not surprising you're defending those Wii and 360 bashers.

apollon (on 02 December 2009)

wii is/was always cheaper...does that make it also the best of the best?

not in my opinion

Jordahn (on 02 December 2009)

"Just to point out, but a store deciding to create their own bundle is very different from an official bundle created by Nintendo/MS/Sony..."

Who cares...? If the consumer wants and buys it, great? If not, their prerogative.

LinKing12 (on 02 December 2009)

Excuses, excuses. "Wii and DS outsold, but PS3 had better bundles." Gimme a break. Let's not forget the record breaking DS sales again and the fact that Wii still sold the most.

PS3 did come out from a serious slump, and props to Sony for that. But they've still got a ways to go to reach Nintendo's Wii sales this generation, and I don't think they will ever reach the DS's level. Unless, of course, they copy Nintendo's DS touchscreen system just as they are planning to copy Wii's motion control.

milkyjoe (on 02 December 2009)

Just to point out, but a store deciding to create their own bundle is very different from an official bundle created by Nintendo/MS/Sony...

Carry on.

Makaha (on 02 December 2009)

@spacetattoo82

well I think Black Friday is only in the USA

so it's just america I think

I belive MS means roughly double Americas number last week, which was 146k, so about 290k-300k

the 440k figure that Sony gave is just U.S. I think, so that means all americas is about 500k, like VG chartz predicts in other article??

Worldwide I think PS3 will be somewhere between 600k - 650k

the Wii will be somewhere around 1 million Worldwide??

spacetattoo82 (on 02 December 2009)

Hold up, so are these world wide sales or just united states figures?

Whats M$ doubling, 285,000 or just american sales doubled?

this can mean two way different out comes.

Jordahn (on 02 December 2009)

Nsanity said : "Sony had total control of the market back in the PS1/PS2 era so stop making excuses for them lagging behind MS and Nintendo...oh and that year lead excuse won't work on the Wii"

So what if SONY had "total" control "PS1/PS2" era? It has nothing to do with me. And please quote where I made excuses for SONY without taking things out of context. And of course the 360 one year lead will not work on the Wii. The 360 being first in the console race was in reference when Microsoft lied about the PS2 being first, claiming that was the reason why the PS2 dominated when it fact it was the Dreamcast that was first to market last gen. Nintendo proved that lie wrong and rightfully so so I'm with you on that one. No on reasonable can deny that because it's just truth. But sadly someone such as yourself only take the truth that fit s your agenda while ignoring the rest when it doesn't. That is what insecurity does. But maybe I'm wasting my time with you since you choose not to see it.

Jordahn (on 02 December 2009)

Atma said: "Madman & Nsanity are right, there are too many Wii and 360 bashing from a little bunch of insecure people here. You got to be totally blinded if you cannot se that."

I NEVER said that there weren't any Wii and 360 bashing. But it was Madman & Nsanity who threw the first stone. There is always going to be at least a little bashing like you said, "little bunch of insecure people" such as Madman & Nsanity. Why did they have to single out the PS3 while you ONLY justified them? Hmmmm... That little bunch is starting to grow since you just grouped yourself in with them.

atma998 (on 01 December 2009)

Take a look at your link :

Playstation 3 Console w/Infamous & Batman Arkham Asylum Games + Dark Knight Blu-ray - $299.00

Nintendo Wii Console w/ Wii Sports Resort Value Bundle - $279.00

I first misread Wii's description. It was indeed bundled with WSR, but you have to admit that 279$ for a Wii and WSR isnt a great deal and the PS3 was only 20$ more expensive with 2 AAA games plus a BR movie.

That said I'm pretty sure the bundled Wii doesnt represent a large part of BF sales unlike the competition. That was my whole point. Otherwise it will be easy to verify it with the next SW chart (for the DS bundles too).

Euphoria14 (on 01 December 2009)

Just curious again.

What do you mean that the $300 PS3 + Batman + DK + Infamous bundle was only $20 more than a non bundle Wii?

Wii rose to $279.99 for Black Friday?

That PS3 bundle is $100 more expensive than a non bundle Wii.

*scratches head*

Euphoria14 (on 01 December 2009)

I also must disagree with you.

PS3 having 2 games bundled in while Wii has Wii Sports + 2 games + some extra stuff shouldn't have outsold it.

PS3 sold 130k last year compared to 850k for the Wii. Now it is 440k to 550k.

Nobody expected PS3 to outsell Wii.

You couldn't twist this as a negative on the PS3 even if you tried.

First you tried to twist as negative claiming it had no bundles, now you know it did. Now you switch over to this?

Tsk, tsk, tsk...

I think that now knowing the Wii had bundles, shouldn't it have done better?

Either way I don't really care, just bored sitting around at home, it's 11pm. :-)

Euphoria14 (on 01 December 2009)

@atma

Those were the Black Friday deals. Of course they are not still in effect. :-)

You're talking about these?

Nintendo DS Lite - $98.00 *

Nintendo Wii Console w/ Wii Sports Resort Value Bundle - $279.00

Nintendo Wii Value Bundle With Console, Remote, Nunchuck, 2 Games And An Extra Set Of Nyko Controllers (Online Only) - $249.00 eBay

atma998 (on 01 December 2009)

I don't know what is your second link but when you click on the 98$ DS link it says 129$ and the other Wii and PS3 links just doesnt work.

Also if those are real prices, the PS3 bundled with 2 games (inFamous and Batman: Arkham Asylum) and a BR of Batman Dark Knight was just 20$ more expensive than a Wii with no bundle. If this is true it would be a shame for Sony to get its PS3 beaten by the Wii in those conditions.

Euphoria14 (on 01 December 2009)

Just to add, Gamestop is still selling those Mario/Brain Age DS BF bundles on their site.

http://www.gamestop.com/browse/ProductMerch.aspx?groupid=716

Walmart had DSLite for $99.

http://www.blackfriday.info/sales/wal-mart-black-friday-ad.html

So, do I win? :-)

Pho_Hybrid (on 01 December 2009)

I'm just so sorry to make this immature comment
but 360 sales are so terrible they don't want to release it, instead they say "go figure"
it just makes me chuckle

Euphoria14 (on 01 December 2009)

Another quick search shows Target giving $20 giftcards with DSi purchase.

http://www.black-friday.net/bf/target-black-friday.html

Also

ToysRus DSi bundles.

Nintendo DSi Brain Age Bundle w/ 2 Free Accessories - $159.99
Nintendo DSi Mario Bundle w/ 2 Free Accessories - $159.99

http://theblackfriday.com/toysrus_blackfriday.shtml

So yes guys, they did have bundles.

This was a quick search too.

Euphoria14 (on 01 December 2009)

Walmart Wii bundle for $289.99.
The Value Bundle for Black Friday includes the Wii console complete with a 5-game sports disc, a second remote controller, an additional nunchuk controller, a game of choice, and one optional accessory choice for $269.00. To play sports without worrying about winter weather, the DreamGear 3-in-1 sports kit allows for a realistic swinging of the bat for baseball, racket for tennis, and club for golf.
http://www.emaxhealth.com/1506/167/34552/walmart-2009-black-friday-value-bundle-%E2%80%93-nintendo-wii.html

Then I found this Walmart bundle for BF.
The bundle they are offering includes the Wii console with “Wii Sports” game, a Wii remote and nunchuk controller, “Hasbro Family Game Night 2” and “Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games” for the Wii.
http://www.inentertainment.co.uk/20091125/black-friday-2009-walmart-ad-nintendo-wii-bundle/

That is just Walmart. I bet I could probably dig up some more.

The Wii did have bundles I guess.

TheWon (on 01 December 2009)

With the amount of advertisement both Sony and Microsoft have been doing. You think they would got more out of it. THe only Wii Advertisement is for their New game NSBWii. Yet the others have commercials going nonstop. Only to get out sold by 110,000 systems. Oh the price some may say. Will the 360 has had 2 ,and the ultimate PS3 finally to get one. That was supposely going to get all those past PS2 owners to buy. Well it doesn't seem like it's happen. Then you throw in the fact the most PS3 exclusive are under performing. You telling me the Left 4 Dead 2 has already out sold Uncharted 2. All ready? Ya Somebody has it right and somebody has it wrong.

Nsanity (on 01 December 2009)

@Jordahn: Sony had total control of the market back in the PS1/PS2 era so stop making excuses for them lagging behind MS and Nintendo...oh and that year lead excuse won't work on the Wii

kunaixhaku (on 01 December 2009)

i wonder how microsoft is gna word this one...

drinkvault (on 01 December 2009)

Nice rebound Sony.

mexmen92 (on 01 December 2009)

I pity the fools who bought Nintendo systems.

Xbbjf9s (on 01 December 2009)

That one was at Toys R Us

Train wreck (on 01 December 2009)

atma998 says:
Congrats Nintendo, you're still #1 as usual and that without any bundles. Great!
--------
No mention of Wii or DS specifically. You don't define #1, and don't mention the relation of bundling to anything. Looks like a typical no logic wii fanboy post to me.

@Xbbjf9s:
Those are from 2008, the bundles I was talking about were the ones offered by gamestop for $169, one offering mario, the other brain age.

Xbbjf9s (on 01 December 2009)

@ Atma998- There were some bundles for the DS but I saw them in the paper...I found this link though..http://www.i4u.com/article21914.html

atma998 (on 01 December 2009)

@Train wreck

LoL

Wii Sports isnt a new deal specially made for BF. The point is that Nintendo didnt make any new special deal with the Wii for BF unlike its competitors. Now you should try to be right.

atma998 (on 01 December 2009)

@Train wreck

Really? Can you name us the titles of those bundled games so that we can verify that on the next weekly SW chart or you just don't remember what game was bundled? And what about the Wii?

@Jordahn

Madman & Nsanity are right, there are too many Wii and 360 bashing from a little bunch of insecure people here. You got to be totally blinded if you cannot se that.

Train wreck (on 01 December 2009)

ALSO when I bought my PS3 and 360 they didn't come with any game, but my wii came BUNDLED (like omg there is that word again) with some Wii Sports game.

If your going to be technical, try to be right.

Train wreck (on 01 December 2009)

That's interesting atma998, I swore that when I went to different places on black Friday and that Saturday I saw plenty of Nintendo DS bundles.

I call BS on your statement.

darthdevidem01 (on 01 December 2009)

so hardware bundles is the "excuse" for PS3 having high sales?

lol wut

Xbbjf9s (on 01 December 2009)

@Jordahn- Well said

kopstudent89 (on 01 December 2009)

week ending 29 for sony! well that makes a slight difference. I'm guessin more like 380-400k for the week ending 28. Spot on Vgchartz!

Jordahn (on 01 December 2009)

The real insecure bunch are you guys (Madman & Nsanity) who cannot give SONY their credit due from launching one year later an the 360 while being the most expensive game console out of the gate. There have been plenty of Wii and DS praising, truth pointing towards Microsoft and the 360, and others trying to covertly downplay the PS3's growing success. If you cannot see that, you better to learn to judge yourselves before you judge others.

haxxiy (on 01 December 2009)

@ XanderZane - lol, it would be retarded to expect sales to be 100% accurate. In the case you don't remember, October VGC NPD PS3 predicted numbers were dead on, and if I'm not wrong something to do with UK sales were rather on spot. It was to these I was reffering to, and in the case you haven't noticed it again, these are the best announcements we'll get unless there is some kind of massive update.

Nsanity (on 01 December 2009)

madman25: They are an insecure bunch

madman25 (on 01 December 2009)

Wow...So many Sony Fanbabies bashing X360 and Wii in this thread. There are plenty of other sites that welcome that kind of behaviour. Why not seek them out and stop polluting VGChartz?

atma998 (on 01 December 2009)

Congrats Nintendo, you're still #1 as usual and that without any bundles. Great!

moondeep (on 01 December 2009)

Black Friday is all about the deals, and MS and Sony had the bundles and the killer deals this year. Nintendo had no bundles or special pricing (other than the recent price drop). Given that, these numbers aren't surprising. Let's see how the Wii fares the rest of the year though. This was but one battle, and the war isn't quite over...

XanderZane (on 01 December 2009)

haxxiy says:
So, PS3 spot on, X360 slightly overtracked, Wii overtrack by a rather significant ammount. VGC have been tracking USA PS3 sales in a rather spetacular way, Wii tracking not so great.
DS awesome, took first place as VGC already predicted, no comments on PSP :P
*************************************************
What!?!? VGC sales are never 100% accurate. Until we get official announcements from the companies, no one really know the correct totals. Wii sales seem a little lower then what they probably are. Don't know about PS3 sales. That's probably close to accurate. The Slim has been selling well. At accurately expected it to be higher, but I think Sony ran out of bundles.

bmmb1 (on 01 December 2009)

@violentphlegm - this refers t which post of mine, the first or the second? If the first, I still don't get it. If the second, I erred when I said the 29 was the day after Black Friday, but it still was the date where I had most of the sales on my site that week.

ViolentPhlegm (on 01 December 2009)

@bmmb1: Look at a calendar.

Metallicube (on 01 December 2009)

Gotta admit I'm a little disappointed by the Wii black friday sales, at least relative to last year. But I guess that's mainly because last year was so massive it's hard to top that. If you put it in perspective, Sony really pushed PS3 with bundles, price drops, new models, etc. Wii hardly had any deals, so in that sense, Nintendo definitely held its own. What I'm really curious to see is Wii's sales over the coming weeks, since this will be the first holiday season to see the full potential of Wii sales without shortages.

LinKing12 (on 01 December 2009)

@ Mr. JumpMan: The games are simple. They don't require years of gamer knowledge and skill. Just pick the controller and play. No excessive button combinations and press-at-just-the-right-moment, just swing the controller like a bat, or attack with the controller like a sword, and a host of other things. It's novel, and it's the next generation of games. Wii just got a head-start and set the precedent; now both HD twins are coming out with motion control (despite the fact that, when the Wii first debuted, many dismissed it as a gimmick) because they see how strong the Wii's sales are. Just goes to show that it's not all about graphics; gameplay, family fun, and practicality (i.e. Wii Fit) play a large role.

I play my Wii everyday, especially NSMB Wii and Wii Fit Plus.

And don't even get me started on comparing Nintendo's and Sony's handhelds...

Soma (on 01 December 2009)

Well as an adult gamer too, 25-30, I CAN understand the popularity of the Wii. Games offer new type of game control and not the same exact thing we've been playing for some years now with only better graphics and online.
Also a lot of Wii games are more accesible, easy to learn and play, no installs, shorter loadings, no game patches etc

xJumpManx (on 01 December 2009)

As an adult gamer 25 - 35 I can not understand the popularity of the Wii. Games are subpar compared to ps3 and 360. I grew up on Nintendo but I grew up and demanded more from my games. I hardly ever turn on my Wii and the 20 or so games I have for it rarely if ever get played.

lilwingman (on 01 December 2009)

wow, god awful ps3 performance last couple years on BF lol. good to see the PS brand is getting some momentum back and maintaining its position on top. woo.

Jordahn (on 01 December 2009)

Congrats Nintendo. Nice to see a comback from previous generations. Stay in it for the long haul. And congrats SONY. They put themselves in an uphill battle to begin with that's been bearing good fruit ever since. VERY respectable to say the least.

darthdevidem01 (on 01 December 2009)

PS3 & DS AMAZING!

Rawnchie14 (on 01 December 2009)

DS dominates, Wii takes off again, PS3 establishes itself, 360 struggles, PSP bombs

bmmb1 (on 01 December 2009)

On a different note - while PS3 numbers are admittedly a lot closer than before, from my experience it is somewhat incorrect to compare the numbers of a week ending November 29 (Sony's numbers) with the numbers of a week ending November 28 (Wii numbers). I own an online store (nothing to do with games...), and a huge amount of my sales that week were on November 29th, the day after Black Friday. That's my experience at least.

bmmb1 (on 01 December 2009)

I must be missing something - why are people here saying Wii has been overtacked by VGChartz? Numbers for the week ending November 28 are not out yet, so how is it overtracked?

rexwong (on 01 December 2009)

What is "Double previous Nov week"
XBOX is LOSSER. said the figure, face the truth!

kopstudent89 (on 01 December 2009)

@ Naum
I would bet less than 10% since BF is only in USA. 580k for the week

CommonMan (on 01 December 2009)

A million DS!?!? Holy crapcakes!

AgentDark (on 01 December 2009)

these numbers are only US Nov 22-Nov 28??

Naum (on 01 December 2009)

Wonder how much the Wii sold in the other parts of NA if they "only" sold 550k in the US and VGC has it much higher.

jefforange89 (on 01 December 2009)

Wow, DS. Has anything ever sold so well in its fifth year? How was the PS2 doing at this point in time?

Lostplanet22 (on 01 December 2009)

The bundles of PS3 are those from Sony or are those from stores? If it is from Sony I don't expect sony made money with the PS3 sales...on the other end I never bought a console last generations and thougt if the company would made money with it...So long I had fun.

haxxiy (on 01 December 2009)

So, PS3 spot on, X360 slightly overtracked, Wii overtrack by a rather significant ammount. VGC have been tracking USA PS3 sales in a rather spetacular way, Wii tracking not so great.
DS awesome, took first place as VGC already predicted, no comments on PSP :P

SOLIDSNAKE08 (on 01 December 2009)

wow is this the first time microsoft havnt boasted? havnt eevn given out figures yet? i wonder why? hmm probably because they took a huge WHOOPING! 150k difference in america alone! now thats big! and look at sony? no boasting, no " we outsold 360" bullshit.

anyway wii and ps3 are meha HOT this holiday! and anyone else surprised the ps3 is only 100k behind the wii? i know it just had a price cut but no one thought the wii would even be touched but looks like the ps3 reallys isnt tat far off! you know, i bet a $199 ps3 would beat the wii every week or come close.

apollon (on 01 December 2009)

veery nice for sony, consider the other hd console has an arcede model with way lower price...last year the arcade was about half the sales?(maybe im wrong btw)

milkyjoe (on 01 December 2009)

The only thing those year on year comparisons show is that 2008 was an insane year for the Wii.

Had 2008 never happened, everyone would be looking at Nintendo's figures and thinking they were great, but because they're not quite as insane as last year, that's somehow bad?

The simple fact is, it would be impossible for any of the 3 to hold sales levels like the Wii had last year for any long term period.

All that's happening now is the Wii is seeing a natural step back to great sales levels from the insane levels of last year.... I mean, 2007 was a great year for Wii as well, and those numbers above beat it by 200,000 and nobody bats an eyelid, which just proves how insane last year was.

Nintendogamer (on 01 December 2009)

So Wii could be adjusted down about 5 Million soon, Most likely Wii wont top NES total sales till March then.

--OkeyDokey-- (on 01 December 2009)

Wii is probably overtracked the last few weeks, too.

Nintendogamer (on 01 December 2009)

Oh 550K in NA, seems very low :(, so they overtracked Wii by about 250,000 then.

hunter_alien (on 01 December 2009)

VGC overestimated the Wii a bit it would seem...

Baalzamon (on 01 December 2009)

psn itself won't cost money, they think Qore will be where it comes from.

mightyERone (on 01 December 2009)

Go Nintendo!! Even with PS3 and MS bundles and BIG 3rd party releases with number 2's attached to them, the Wii still outsold the HD systems by a "BIG" 100k more. (LOL !!) DS RULES!!!

Dogswithguns (on 01 December 2009)

If the 360 didn't have all RRoD in the past years it would've still be a good sale, hardware problems do take a turn for the MS.... eventho, the Jasper chips on their new systems now people still gonna have to think twice to grab the 360.

ethomaz (on 01 December 2009)

This year the big winners are: DS (monster) and PS3 (over expectation).

The losers: 360 (under expectation) and PSP.

Wii just fine and nothing more. Nice Black Friday after all.

Kai Master (on 01 December 2009)

hum... nomvember is more and more black friday-focused.
numbers and record 1M DS is for USA only?

bardicverse (on 01 December 2009)

With the Wii over 100k stride from the nearest competitor, it's safe to say that it's sealed up another holiday victory over the PS3 and 360, despite a rather lackluster year. PS3 has improved well over its own previous year's sales, and 360 may need to turn it up a notch to seal their spot this gen in 2nd place.

Jumpin (on 01 December 2009)

So DS broke the record for Black Friday sales previously set by Wii... well shattered it! That's insane, how far will this little system go?

darthdevidem01 (on 01 December 2009)

Add in Canda & VGC is absically SPOT ON!

congrats ioi!

darthdevidem01 (on 01 December 2009)

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING PS3 sales

almost within 100K of the wii

wow!

Attoyou (on 01 December 2009)

squall747

they are no rumors, they already confirmed a premium PSN and already said you can keep what you have now FOR FREE . nice try ;)

kopstudent89 (on 01 December 2009)

I dont think we'll ever see another console get flamed for the numbers Wii is doing right now :P

That being said though, Nintendo kinda screwed up a bit for losing the huge momentum they gathered last year, however 550k is not an easy number to sniff at. Maybe though and i'm betting that in December Wii will explode past its competitors. Its gonna regain some ground in Japan, so will others follow?

woopah (on 01 December 2009)

I wondering if it was a mistake for nintendo to not do bundles. Clearly Bundles helped PS3 greatly, possibly offsetting the extra costs of the bundles. Would a NSMBW bundle have been beneficial to nintendo? overall im thinking not

Globox (on 01 December 2009)

So...when will MS release their BF numbers?
Come on MS you were very vocal in the past when it comes to your numbers, but this is pathetic "double previous Nov week" - lol

libellule (on 01 December 2009)

@Jacob,

you should add what can, surprisingly be find in N4G :

Sony spokesman Patrick Seybold said in a statement, "The 2009 holiday season got off to an amazing start for PlayStation, with all key retailers showing a significant increase for PS3, PSP and key holiday titles over Black Friday and the holiday weekend. PlayStation 3 demand was at an all time high with the system selling more than 440,000 units for the week ending 11/29/09.

from you right ? is it in US ? or NA ? it is not clear in the comment itself ...

ChrisIsNotSexy (on 01 December 2009)

Nice PS3,600k+ next week for sure.

z101 (on 01 December 2009)

Wow at Nintendo and Sony!

An Microsoft? Seems the mountain of loss is still growing strongly.

jneul (on 01 December 2009)

lol microsoft were too ashamed to post their numbers, way to fail m$

ZorroX (on 01 December 2009)

Microsoft was ashamed even to post their numbers? LOL.
If VGC last week numbers are correct, then in US alone, MS sold only 240k x360, while Sony over 440k PS3.
That`s like by 200k more in one week.
Who said, that US is x360 land?
Just give more KZ2 and InF bundles, Sony, and you have US!

Also, the small difference between Wii and PS3, just wow. Ps3 Go Go!

squall747 (on 01 December 2009)

@ TheKarateKid okay Blu-ray, and don't forget the large difference of units sold in the "North American" region between 360 and PS3 and 360 is still strong. Also the same could be said for Nintendo and Sony which for obvious reasons are Japanese consoles :). Move along fan boy save your bias opinion's.

P.S. Most recent week 360 outsold PS3 in the NA region....And rumor has it PSN won't be free next year.

Vas-y (on 01 December 2009)

I hope this is the final proof that Sony slept over two years and now woke up. Never ever release a console at a price of 600$/€ or 400$/€. We do not want to spend that much money for a console (at least I do not want to).

Uberkiffer (on 01 December 2009)

Wow, looks like Sony just finally decided to join the black friday party this year.

Apollian (on 01 December 2009)

who to believe? who to believe...I think I'll leave this one up to chart tracker

ps3_jrpg_gamer (on 01 December 2009)

Wii 250K less than last year lol i don 't think they are very happy with sales, 360 also maybe BF 2009 will be its worst

DS is now a real dinosaur, monster, alien product 1 million WOW

ps3_jrpg_gamer (on 01 December 2009)

360 last week 146k america so 292k BF lol
PS3 BF 2009>360 BF 2008 on your face microsoft

thismeintiel (on 01 December 2009)

@arcane_chaos/nerochaos
LOL, yeah I'm here, too. Just ignore the fact that I lack originality in naming myself, and the fact I mispelled it here. :-)

Noobie (on 01 December 2009)

I think VGC is taking Nintendo n Sony reported Number for whole North America n other territories which is covered in Americas by VGC.. cuz when they showed MS number ~390K which is double of 146K of Americas.?

So am i right in assuming that 440k & 550k for PS3 n Wii is for whole region covered under Americas than simply one country called USA?

arcane_chaos (on 01 December 2009)

@thismeintiel

I didn't know you had an account here!?!?!?!?! It's me(nerochaos)

pelenow (on 01 December 2009)

@thismeintiel

VGChartz is a great site. It's not perfect, but it's fairly accurate. If a small site like this can predict so well and keep perfecting over time all the big, expensive reports ( NPD, Chart-track etc) will become obsolete. It's not a matter of bashing, it's about staying relevant.
