[NIS 09] NISA Announces an Exclusive PS3 RPG, Last Rebellion
NISA announced a new exclusive game for the PS3, an RPG titled Last Rebellion.
They have released these 5 screenshots to tease us. Click for the larger versions.
Here is the press release:
Today NIS America announced an all-new RPG –“Last Rebellion” for the PlayStation®3 Computer Entertainment System. A joint project between Nippon Ichi Software and HitMaker, Last Rebellion is an RPG with action elements. Players can roam around the world field and make action movements like in an action game, but once you enterbattleyou engage the enemy using a turn-based system.
Battle System
During battle, different body parts can be targeted to disable the enemy. For instance, attacks to the legs will slow them down, while blows to the arms will weaken their attacks. By strategically striking key areas of the body, players can strip the enemy of their ability to fight.
Setting
There are 2 main characters in Last Rebellion, Nine (male) and Aisha (female). Nine is a Blade, whose specialty is physical attacks, and Aisha is a Sealer, who uses magic spells to attack & seal enemies. The player can switch back and forth between the two during the battle. Since Nine and Aisha share a single, the player must strategically choose which character to execute their attacks first. Because of this, Last Rebellion is no ordinary RPG with another mindless battle system. The player must be aware of which enemies they are fighting against, and use their experience and strategy throughout the game.
•Tactical battle system with interchangeable main characters
•Attractive, visual characters with lots of personality
•Gorgeous watercolor-like character art and event scenes
•A story of revenge featuring a dark anti-hero
RELEASE DATE : Fall 2009
PLATFORM : PlayStation®3
GENRE: RPG
PLAYER(S) : 1

It's so funny to see a PS3 fanboy talking about graphics when he believes the PSP is stronger than the Wii and believes a small company like NIS can make a game that looks 10x better than a Wii game from big devs.
That's what's funny.
Not to mention I readdressed the graphics thing in my response to torillian.
Can you speak any more bullshit than you have?
^haha, it's so funny having a Wii fanboy in a thread about a PS3 game talking about graphics, and replying to every tease I send his way, hahaha
As bad as the final product could turn out to look , it'll still look many ten times better than any Wii game, lol.
Because they spent something like a year studying the PS3. You need to make multiple games to spread that cost out...
Afterall games using the same engine can make non profitable games suddenly profitable.
Say an engine costs 10 million, the rest of the game 10 million, and the game makes 17 million in retail.
Now that make a sequel. You split that 10 million for the engine across two games... now suddenly the first game made 2 million.
I don't think they were unhappy, I'd say more of a "not bad"
Anyway it doesn't really matter.
Well, if they were truly that unhappy, then I don't understand why they'd announce another exclusive.
Didn't Kasz post a translation saying they didn't think too highly of D3 sales in the Persona at E3 thread?
I'd say them studying the PS3 for a year and them not wanting to make that time and money spent doing go to waste is more likely...or at least a big factor.
@ Valkyria
I guess they were more than happy with the sales of Disgaea 3.
lol wow it looks like a ps2 game XD I actually thought it was from a psp game at first !
Lol... wow this needs better screenshot... because this looks like the incredibly bland looking Dragon's Aria from PSP...
@Tor
WRONG. I wasn't badmouthing this game at all. So far it looks bad graphically but I know the final product won't be as bad especially in motion. I'm just talking about the current build. Don't jump to conclusions.
Heck on this site and on some other sites they're quick to judge this game calling it bad when I think it'll be pretty good.
Some of you guys hurt my brain. So Soriku, when I talk about how pictures of a Wii JRPG look crappy you tell me I shouldn't judge the game until I see it in action, but on the flip side you are perfectly fine with badmouthing a PS3 game off of an extremely early build where the visuals aren't even close to done. There are big ass arrows in one of the screenshots pointing at the character, do you honestly think that's something that shows up in a finished game?
What Nazna said. Their PS2 games look like PS One games, why so surpised if their PS3 games look like PS2 games.
@Valkyria
Before they started Disgaea 3 they spent a year studying the PS3 and probably spent a good deal of time and money doing that (although these graphics are what they can manage with their budget) so it'd be stupid to quit after D3 which can be done a ton other systems...
I agree these games can easily be ported though.
At least they're bringing Sakura Wars to Wii :)
^
Agreed.
Dunno why the hell theyre developing for HD consoles anyways if its possible on Wii/PS2. If you cant pull of 3D stick to 2D. Like Vanillware and their delicious Muramasa. NIS could also develop for handheld DS/PSP. We didnt need Disgaea 2 port PSP couldve used this game. I see no reason for them to develop for HD console unless theyre gonna go all out or some online.
This looks a lot like Vagrant Story. Not a bad thing by any stretch of the imagination, but why wasn't this done on the PS2? It would probably keep their costs down significantly, which, combined with the larger fanbase, would give the game a better shot at taking off.
looks like a early ps2 game , alot more work on the graphics need done and i think disgaea 3 looks better easly. they need to hire ppl who know how to use the gpu of the ps3.
Man, that looks like a PSP game. I'm sure even Wii would be capable of such visuals, if not the resolution.
And 'beautiful watercolor-inspired artstyle'? :p That makes it sound Okami-ish, but to me, it looks like standard run-of-the-mill celshading. :s
Not Cell-shading. Lol see what I did there? ;)
NIS is a low-budget company, and their games are as well. I would have thought people would be used to that by now.
I got excited when I read "watercolor art style" in the description...but that looks awfully bland...bleh
@soriku I believe you when you compare the graphics to a PS2 , since that's like the graphic quality you're used to. Early screenshots, probably alpha version, who knows...oh , and the PSP looks better than the Wii.
looks like ps2 game and from what they said it will be just another Valhalla Knights kind of game but with turn-based battle system. guess i'll pass on this one.
well i think it will become a standard - small japanese devs making games for hd twins will be joining forces = smaller risk of going bankrupt if game will flop.
don't expect great graphics from such a game - small japanese devs don't have resources to pull Mistwalker or SE kind of graphics to begin with, not to mention so far every jrpg for hd twins from smaller company looks like last gen game/psp title(atelier ronora anyone?). bear with it cause it won't change.
Hmm the graphics are extremly bad. FF12 looks better than this or atleast the same. But I cant imagine that they would release a game with such graphics. The game will have big graphic improvements before the release. The Concept sounds good. That could be interesting.
Dang those graphics are hard on the eyes
Looks like I'll still be waiting for WKC :(
yeah I definitely dont like the graphics...good thing im not a graphics whore=P
Many japanese developers seem to have huge problems with using high resolution textures and shaders.
Well, I'm aware that it's a low budget project and I hope it turns out good though (battle system sounds nice).
@Valkyria00
Pls keep ur own personal opinion to urself, if u not allowed others to express their own opinion....graphic is ok....nothing spectacular......but is quite fine...and is in early stage anyway. Sometime i find good visual (infinite discovery, bue dragon etc) game play is shit....
@bbsin
Really, I think Disgaea 3 looks better than this graphically so far. Good 2D > crappy 3D.
Hephaestos says:
character is nice... the rest is butt awfull, looks like a PSP game...
I hope they polish that a bit (errr a lot even...)
***********************************************
That's what I keep saying. It could easily pass for a PS2 or PSP game. If the gameplay and story aren't incredible, I won't even bother with that game. Good to see the PS3 getting more JRPG games, but they need better then this.
@ Valkyria
I just said the character looked good in the first picture. Didn't comment on anything else.
That's all the graphical praise I see.
You guys can say what you want about graphics, it's still a huge upgrade over disgaea3. :P
Yeah they definitely said this was really really early and they were kind of even embarrassed to show them to us, but they wanted to show us something to at least prove it was real.
This game looks terrible. The character and battle concepts seem interesting, but these visuals are just disgusting.
Wow, this games looks like development roadkill. I don't even just mean how this looks like early PS2 stuff. It's just utterly bland artistically. Go back to sprites NIS, it's what you do well.
Battle system should be decent at least. It seems to take from Fallout 3 and Vagrant Story a bit with the limb based combat. Hope it delivers.
@Valkyria00
Was that directed at me? What, I'm not allowed to look past the graphics of a game?
Wow sweet. Graphics are pretty average but hopefully it will improve. Another exclusive ftw
I reckon the PS2 could manage those graphics.
It could end up being a good game, but NIS are seriously behind in the tech department.
Oh man the fucking hypocrisy!!!
This game visually looks like ass but some people still and are gong to defend it. I personally dont give a shit but this game right now is not beautiful and is visually ugly.
NIS is a cool developer though so PS3 might just have another winner. Lucky bastards.....
Screw the visuals, this game will be great. It has me much more hyped up then all of that other game mashup crap. This and Sakura Wars made this conference a success.
•Attractive, visual characters with lots of personality
•Gorgeous watercolor-like character art and event scenes
lol really? I'm sure the game is probably good but this looks like a mid PSP/PS2 game.
I'm sure it will. Look at Lost Planet on PS3. The game looks terrible at the start, but it ended up looking pretty nice.
character is nice... the rest is butt awfull, looks like a PSP game...
I hope they polish that a bit (errr a lot even...)
I really like the character outlines in that first shot. It reminds me of Prince of Persia!
