DSi Becomes Fourth Fastest Selling Console In UK History!
Speaking to MCV and Gamesindustry.biz today, GfK-ChartTrack’s Chris Poole has revealed that Nintendo’s DSi became the fourth fastest-selling console in UK history over its opening weekend, only being outdone by the opening weekends of PSP, PS3 and Wii. DSi outsold the original DS which now drops to fifth place in the fastest selling list with 92,000 units sold in the first two days on sale.
In unit terms, it outsold all other consoles combined over the weekend – including PS3, PSP, Wii and Xbox 360. “It’s a very impressive opening couple of days considering the lack of launch software,” said Poole, "I can tell you that the DSi has outsold all the other consoles for the week. DS software is up the most last week," he added, despite "no big releases".

When asked if Nintendo could continue to see a growth in sales throughout the Easter period, Poole expressed his doubts. "Easter is generally a good period for Nintendo," he said, adding: "There was a lot of pre-order activity on DSi, so I'm not sure how it's going to maintain its strong sales in the following weeks. We'll just have to wait and see how well it's promoted."
Stay tuned to VGChartz for news of the American DSi launch.
